Course Objectives:
— Overview and definitions of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty/Safeguards.
— Understand legal thresholds and framework for deprivation of liberty and mental capacity.
— Understand the purpose and components of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and recognise the roles professionals play in this process.
— Understand and differentiate between deprivation of liberty under the Mental Capacity Act and detention under the Mental Health Act.
— Recognise how deprivation of liberty/mental capacity applies in different settings.
— Identify resources and organisations that provide support and advocacy for individuals subject to deprivation of liberty/mental capacity.
