Course Description:
This one-day course will develop and extend your ability to recognise and respond effectively in families where adult mental illness is having a negative impact on children.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course you will have:
— Developed your understanding of the definitions and prevalence of mental illness in adults.
— Identified how parental mental ill-health can have an impact on children across a range of ages.
— Explored the specific impacts of depression and personality disorder on adults, their parenting, and professional behaviour.
— Considered learning from recent child safeguarding practice reviews (previously known as serious case reviews) where parental mental illness has been a feature.
— Used a detailed case example to develop your understanding of how to contribute to more effective assessments and interventions.
