Family Group Conference (FGC)
Statutory Duties
A FGC is convened and run by an independent co-ordinator. ‘Family’ includes the child or adult concerned, parents, extended family, and other adults and friends, who are concerned and care about the child or adult and the child or adult’s immediate family who needs support. At the FGC, the family will have time to produce their plan to meet the needs of the child or adult, with their carers at the centre of the process. The family’s plan should be accepted, supported and resourced, provided it does not put the child or adult at risk of harm.
There is no threshold to access the FGC service, and it is open to all families from Early Help through to Child Protection.

Advocacy is routinely offered to children, young people and adults to aid inclusion and help them participate and have their wishes and feelings expressed. Please see our advocacy leaflet below for further information.
