Course Description:
This one-day course will provide you with some key skills and knowledge to enable you to be effective in taking a lead role in safeguarding children in a VCS setting.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course you will have:
— Developed your awareness of current issues in safeguarding children
— Gained a working understanding of law and statutory guidance related to safeguarding
— Used case scenarios to develop your ability to judge when to consult with or refer to Children’s Social Care (Camden Children and Families Contact Service)
— Gained a practical understanding of thresholds (levels) of need in children and the child protection process
— Identified what constitutes a positive safeguarding culture in a VCS setting.
The training is highly participative, and you are encouraged to bring questions and examples from your own professional practice. It will be informed throughout by relevant law, guidance, procedures, theory, child safeguarding practice reviews (formerly serious case reviews) and current research, and will be supported by a comprehensive handout pack.
Target Audience:
This session is for new Safeguarding Leads and other Key Staff, who have not received training in this area previously.
Please ensure you complete Introduction to Safeguarding Mandatory Learning 2025 e-learning prior to attending.
The CSCP will be delivering both face-to-face and virtual safeguarding training. Please ensure that you have read the course description, so you are clear on the delivery method for the course you have booked. Further details will be shared with you closer to the course date.

— Complete the two-stage evaluation which delegates will receive by email.
If the session you are attending is virtual:
— Please make sure you can access Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
— There is an expectation that all delegates engage and fully participate in the sessions and always have their camera on.
— Keep questions general, and avoid giving any information that could be used to identify a child or family.
— Use headphones or a headset and always keep your speaker on mute if you’re not speaking.
— Don’t record any of the online conversation.
— Make sure other people you live with, especially children, are not in the room and cannot overhear sensitive information.
— Don’t use any other devices while you’re taking part.
— Join on laptop or PC for a better experience.
Failure of any of the above will result in the delegate not receiving their certificate of accreditation.
