Child Abuse Linked to Faith and Belief
We are supporting a summer campaign to highlight the risks to girls and women of female genital mutilation (FGM).
In the UK, an estimated 137,000 girls and women are living with the consequences of FGM and about 60,000 girls under the age of 15 are at risk of FGM. FGM is a form of violent abuse against girls and women. It is illegal in the UK and leaders of all the main faith groups have spoken out against it. Doctors, nurses, midwives and teachers are now legally required to report known cases of FGM on girls under the age of 18 to the police. If you suspect that a child or young person is at risk of FGM please call Camden Council’s children and families contact service on 020 7974 3317 (out of hours: 020 7974 4444). If you think a child is in immediate danger of FGM call the police on 999.
